Barbour waxed cotton is perfect for modern life and when properly looked after, can last for many years and plenty of adventures. You can also extend the life of your jacket from home with an annual re-waxing. Using Barbour's expert Wax Thornproof Dressing, you can lovingly restore your waxy companion by following the simple instructions in Barbour's step-by-step guide.

  • Product Features

    • Step 1 | Clean the jacket using cold water and a sponge to wipe down the outside of the jacket. Avoid using hot water, or any kind of soap and NEVER put the jacket in the washing machine.
    • Step 2 | Take a tin of Barbour Wax Thornproof Dressing. Remove the lid and stand the tin of dressing in a container of water hot enough to soften the wax. It should take approximately 20 minutes to melt the wax into a liquid consistency.
    • Step 3 | Using a cloth or sponge, work the melted wax well into the jacket paying particular attention to seams, creases and dry patches. Wipe off any excess wax. Ensure you keep the wax away from the corduroy collar and the inside of the jacket
    • Step 4 | Once you've re-waxed the jacket, hang it up. Allow the jacket to dry overnight in a warm place away from other garments.
    • Step 5 | We recommend you re-wax your jacket once a year (depending on how often you wear it) so that it will last for many adventures to come.

great coat for women too

I like a winter jacket that I can layer as needed as I live in a very cold climate. I like a boxy fit for this reason, and the Bedale being a bit shorter fits my 5'5" 120lb frame with just the right oversized fit. Bought size 36-- Usual women's size 6. Got the olve as it is the skyoil finish which is softer and a bit more comfortable to wear than the Thornproof on other colors. I have down coats, but like this better as it does not get oppressively hot while in a store.. The corduroy collar does not get discolored from lotions I may have on my face Love the little knit cuffs inside of sleeve that women's coats do not have. Second one for me as I have a size 34 that is good if no layers needed, which I bought in 2000 and still going strong with a lot of patina!

Barbour Ashby review (5’10, 180lb)

It took buying a few diff Barbour coats (styles, sizes) to finally decide this one was the best fit and look for my dad. He’s 5’10 and 180lb - the Bedale in his usual size 42 was outrageously big. The Ashby in size large was an excellent, tailored fit. I also purchased the liner (in sz medium). The coat arrived quickly - days earlier than expected. Thank you, Bloomingdale’s!
