FAKES?

This was my third pair buying for work. They were the softest leather, most comfortable shoes. I bought the third pair on sale. I never opened the box because they were an extra back up pair when my others wore out. when I finally opened the box, I assumed they were fakes. The leather was no longer soft but hard. They came with no shoe liners. It was way passed the return date so I kept them.
